Breaking News: False Profit pioneers release Underground 2.0: now Above Ground.

Alchemy is the first Underground 2.0 offering from False Profit. This legal and permitted event, to be held in an art gallery, will feature all manner of creative activities. Where past events have relied on careful design by an executive team to blow apart your senses, Alchemy features the same careful design but relies on you, the participant, to take things
a step further once you arrive. You are invited to dress creatively, express indulgently, and create your own interactive games for the evening.

This is going to be great. One project I've been working on a lot these days, though I should be at my desk programming, is called Video Mad Libs. Here's how it works:

We'll have a stage, costumes, props, and a green screen. You pick your scene, which describes the actors required and general costuming. There are no lines (it is video *mad libs* after all). Instead, the scene cards have a general outline of the scene you're going to perform. For example, it could be from Ferris Bueller's Day Off when Ferris is faking sick for his parents so he can play hookie.

So, you act out the scene, and the special editing software we've designed for Alchemy will stitch in the appropriate background (ferris's bedroom) and splice you into the movie.

After the director calls "That's a wrap" you head over to the screening area where you can watch your scene as it appears in a shortened version of the movie (about 5 minutes).

We'll have lots of movies you can pick from, though you won't know which one you're in until you see the final cut!

    Nice! I'll be there.
    • What will you create?

It's true, there will be a lot to do at Alchemy, like Brett said.

Alchemy is also a blank canvas, and we encourage wild creativity on that canvas. There will be chill space, and free space. You can dress up, down, create a game, bring your improv troup, pretend you're a werewolf all night, etc.. We will be in an art gallery that's open to the public and has nice art, so try not to explode anything (sorry), and I'm curious what's possible?

      Guerrilla Snow White kissing booth?
      Grilled cheese fairy?
      Anonymous singing telegram?

      So, what will you create?

        will there be puppet shows?
        will there be sorcery?
        will there be sorcerous puppetry?
i want cartoon characters walking around like they're just folks.
        and frankensteins.
        dancin' frankensteins.
maybe a sit 'n spin, but, you know, grown-up sized.
        promise me that, marc scheff.

BYO Art - I love it!

        How about...
        Drive-by Kissing Range
Learn to Lapdance in 20 Minutes
        Insta-Klown Kloset
Personal Issues Rebate and Trade-In Station

Can I explode my own inhibitions? The scraps that remain, anyway...

The fashion show? It's all about the ups and downs of love. An emotionally charged performance of the alchemical transition from devestating heartbreak to starting all over, from darkness to light, from fear to openess..."Love Cycle" fashion designers include Miranda Caroligne with a mysterious, dark and dramatic "Heartbreak" scene, Molly Rebuschatis with lingerie-inspired, chair-dancing "Flirtation", Kayo with her urban gun-toting ninja "Anger", Monica Wontorski with an environmentally conscious and 'soft as snowfall' collection depicting "Innocence and Love", and Jeremy Parr (one of SF Fashion Week's Emerging Stars) with his cozy 'sitting by the fireplace' casual menswear for "Seduction".

i will be there, wearing my most devious dancing persona. i encourage everyone to bring a bagfull of artful personas as well (dancer, sculptor, painter, actor, poet). you will have many opportunites to decorate, enhance, and let them out to play while there. with the video mad libs, DIY body canvases, creative writing, and other interactivity, they can all be stars! (if you only have one persona to bring, that's ok too.)

The Art Lab-- Come explore the chemistry behind it all... Take a tour, collect specimens, go back to the lab, distill them, put them under a microscope, examine anything and everything as close or as far away as you want. Use utinsils and other objects to create your way through the artistic process and further understanding of the artistic kind as we know it. Wander the museum of lost wonder, revisit old pathways or explore the unknown. There are no bounds.

Alchemy is a multimedia art gallery, where participation is optional and accessible.

Come and observe the creativity of the hosts and participants, or be a participant yourself. Every activiity is designed so it's easy to join in. Paint with the painters, act with the video crew, write and read in the chill Verse Forge space, strike a pose for the figure drawers.

Bring your creativity, bring clothes to get a screenprinted graphic or logo, bring an idea for something to read aloud, or just bring an eye to observe an excellent creative alchemical space.

I'm not really sure what to expect here, I'm even a little intimidated by the prospect of all this creativity but I'm excited none the less!

        See you all there!

it's ok HiLife. you're not alone.

here has been some confusion here and there about what it is and what's going on and what if you're not the artsy type and don't feel like participating?

first, i would like to reiterate that ALCHEMY is not a dance party - it's an art event and more like a festival celebrating our communal creativity. there will be good music, of course (provided by Fake Science), but it won't be the focus. other forms of ART will be focused upon.

second, while there will be plenty of interactive multimedia activities for you to get involved in, but it's also in an art gallery (a big one!) and tons multimedia and visual art from the community will be represented - some for the first time! there will be plenty of things for you to see and observe if you're not in participation mode. even if you're not the creative type/an artist yourself, you like art, right? RIGHT?!

the FP crew is really looking forward to putting on something different and interactive and focused on all the amazing artists in this community, so please consider supporting ALCHEMY before you head off to other parties ...i know there's some tough competition this weekend, but this starts early and you'll have plenty of time to dance like the freak that you are afterward. the fashion show (yes, i'm in it) is at 10:00 - so come early! for $10 you won't be disappointed, and hopefully you'll walk away having learned something, inspired, and basking in the warm glow of SF's awesome art scene.

is to create such a great event that HiLife is forced to change her user icon to something less world-weary.
