it's ok HiLife. you're not alone. here has been some confusion here and there about what it is and what's going on and what if you're not the artsy type and don't feel like participating? first, i would like to reiterate that ALCHEMY is not a dance party - it's an art event and more like a festival celebrating our communal creativity. there will be good music, of course (provided by Fake Science), but it won't be the focus. other forms of ART will be focused upon. second, while there will be plenty of interactive multimedia activities for you to get involved in, but it's also in an art gallery (a big one!) and tons multimedia and visual art from the community will be represented - some for the first time! there will be plenty of things for you to see and observe if you're not in participation mode. even if you're not the creative type/an artist yourself, you like art, right? RIGHT?! the FP crew is really looking forward to putting on something different and interactive and focused on all the amazing artists in this community, so please consider supporting ALCHEMY before you head off to other parties ...i know there's some tough competition this weekend, but this starts early and you'll have plenty of time to dance like the freak that you are afterward. the fashion show (yes, i'm in it) is at 10:00 - so come early! for $10 you won't be disappointed, and hopefully you'll walk away having learned something, inspired, and basking in the warm glow of SF's awesome art scene.

It's true, there will be a lot to do at Alchemy, like Brett said. Alchemy is also a blank canvas, and we encourage wild creativity on that canvas. There will be chill space, and free space. You can dress up, down, create a game, bring your improv troup, pretend you're a werewolf all night, etc.. We will be in an art gallery that's open to the public and has nice art, so try not to explode anything (sorry), and I'm curious what's possible? Guerrilla Snow White kissing booth? Grilled cheese fairy? Anonymous singing telegram? So, what will you create?

This is going to be great. One project I've been working on a lot these days, though I should be at my desk programming, is called Video Mad Libs. Here's how it works: We'll have a stage, costumes, props, and a green screen. You pick your scene, which describes the actors required and general costuming. There are no lines (it is video *mad libs* after all). Instead, the scene cards have a general outline of the scene you're going to perform. For example, it could be from Ferris Bueller's Day Off when Ferris is faking sick for his parents so he can play hookie. So, you act out the scene, and the special editing software we've designed for Alchemy will stitch in the appropriate background (ferris's bedroom) and splice you into the movie. After the director calls "That's a wrap" you head over to the screening area where you can watch your scene as it appears in a shortened version of the movie (about 5 minutes). We'll have lots of movies you can pick from, though you won't know which one you're in until you see the final cut!
