I tend to agree- the size and concentration (and profit-only motives) of heavily industrialized farming operations leads to just those sorts of problems, and it's sad. humans have been raising hogs for a long time, but these extremes of factory farming are pretty new! unfortunately, even in light of public safety and sustainability issues and allegations of inhumane treatment at many facilities, I doubt governments around the world are going to do enough, if anything, to curtail these practices. so, it's up to us. many folks choose not to consume any animal products at all for personal reasons. if that's combined with some other responsible buying habits, it's also a way to reduce harm and environmental impact. but more generally, people with all sorts of diets can help reduce the problems of industrialized farming by acquiring our food (meat or otherwise!) from local sources, supporting sustainable and responsible farming practices, and eating a diet without very large quantities of meat or processed foods. therefore, stephanie, I suggest we split a small niman ranch free-range bacon pizza, made from all california ingredients, with whole wheat crust and organic cheese and homemade sauce and.... oh... damn... why'd I do that? midnight snack time. (no, not bacon)

as my friend Josh was saying, while we smelled a camp stove frying bacon on its way to a cracked out dance floor deep in the forest... our generation was raised with all this information about health, and we know to worry about cholesterol levels and everything. so bacon is like, truly decadent! you know, dude, we're gonna get a bunch of kids together, and some music, and go somewhere people don't always go, and then we're gonna drink and smoke and get funky and EAT SOME BACON... word. it's the new party drug. watch out tho kids, it's almost as addictive as smack, and also it accumulates in your spinal fluid and puts holes in your brain. :P
